RUSTY RIDERS
The Rusty Riders programme is a modern urban cycle training course for adults who wish to brush up on their cycling skills and is available to Hull residents for free, as it is funded by Hull City Council.
The two-and-a-half-hour session is designed to refresh the skills of adults returning to cycling by preparing them to cycle safely and confidently on Hull’s roads.
The training is delivered by First Step Sports, with qualified cycle instructors on hand to deliver the bespoke training.
Individual or group and company bookings can be made by calling 01482 218 753 or by visiting First Step Sports
PEDESTRIAN SKILLS TRAINING
More commonly known as Green Cross Code training, Hull City Council has committed to delivering pedestrian skills training to children across all the city’s primary schools for a further three years until 2027.
The sessions, delivered by First Step Sports, provide the essential skills for young people to stay safe on our city’s roads.
Between 2020 and 2024, 8,419 pupils have completed the training across the city.
BIKEABILITY
Hull has maintained its place as one of the top 10 locations in the country for delivering cycle training to children, according to The Bikeability Trust.
Between April 2023 and March 2024, 92% of year 6 pupils in Hull received either Level 1 and 2 or Level 2 Bikeability training, putting the city seventh in the league table in a top 10 that includes Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, Plymouth City Council, Kirklees Council, Warrington Borough Council, North Lincolnshire Council, North East Lincolnshire Council, Lancashire County Council, Cambridgeshire County Council and Leeds City Council.
After taking over full delivery of all Bikeability training in the city last year, Hull City Council has taken additional steps to reduce cancellations and increase participation as well as rolled out training to all primary schools in the city.
