You can now hire electric bikes
Students and staff can take advantage of the upgraded cycling infrastructure across the city and explore some of Hull’s best-loved and hidden spots in a more sustainable, environmentally-friendly way.
People can now hire electric bikes as part of plans to encourage cycling in the city.
6 new electric bikes can be hired from the cycle hubs in Trinity Market and The University of Hull. The hubs are operated by charity R-evolution.
E-bikes use electrical power to make pedalling easier. This is especially useful when travelling a long distance. From Wednesday 23 March, 3 bikes will be available at the market and 3 at the university.
Research published by the Bike Is Best group and University of Westminster’s Active Travel Academy showed the benefits of using electric bikes. This included delivering more than £2 billion in health benefits and cutting a million tonnes of emissions annually.
Councillor Daren Hale, Leader of Hull City Council said - 'We’re delighted to be expanding the range of bikes available for people to hire. We understand how crucial it is to level up our offer to encourage people to cycle more. The price for hire is cheaper than other cities so we can make them more accessible for everyone. The bikes can be interchanged between both the cycle hubs at Trinity Market and The University of Hull.'
The electric bikes will be available to loan for £20 a day or £100 for the week. There is a £100 refundable deposit.
John Marshall MBE, CEO at R-evolution, said - 'We are really excited to introduce this offer to the people of Hull. At R-evolution we recycle older bikes and bring them back into use. And now this new service means we can offer people the chance to try out an electric bike. Our partnership with Hull City Council and Hull University connects the city centre to the campus. It will also assist in reaching carbon net zero targets.'
Paul Riley, Assistant Director of Estates at the University of Hull, said - 'Encouraging students and staff to travel sustainably is an important part of our plan to become carbon neutral by 2027. This move builds on the partnership we already have with R-evolution and Hull City Council. We are delighted to be able to expand our offering to include electric bikes.'
The bikes are funded by Hull City Council, R-evolution and The University of Hull. They can be booked in advance by calling 01482 844 422.
