Hull City Council is pleased to announce that they are continuing to support the Hull KAT Card, a discounted travel card for under 19s.
Hull City Council is pleased to announce that they are continuing to support the Hull KAT Card, a discounted travel card for under 19s.
Hull City Council, working in partnership with Stagecoach and East Yorkshire Buses, introduced the Hull KAT Card in 2018 following the growing success of the Hull Card – a ticket which offers unlimited bus travel across Hull and East Riding.
The KAT Card, created by Hull’s Young People’s Parliament (HYPP), allows young people aged 19 and under to ride buses in Hull and parts of the East Riding for a discounted price.
However, with the prices of the Hull Card increasing from Sunday 23 July, this in-turn has increased the price of the KAT Card.
To continue supporting youth travel, Hull City Council is pleased to announce that it will continue subsidising the Hull KAT Card, to keep travel affordable and accessible to all young people across the city.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads, and highways at Hull City Council, said:
“I am delighted that the council is continuing to work with Stagecoach and East Yorkshire Buses to subsidise the Hull KAT Card.
“This discount will help young people in communities right across Hull save on their travel expenses, whilst making it easier for them to get around the city.
“I believe this is a key step in supporting public transport and youth travel and I am excited to see the positive impact it will have.”
The Hull KAT Card is also discounted by the bus operators, Stagecoach and East Yorkshire Buses.
Combined with the financial contribution from Hull City Council, this brings the price of the KAT Card down to £13.50 per week; the standard Hull Card weekly price is £18.90.
Dave Skepper, interim managing director at Stagecoach, said: “We are delighted Hull City Council is continuing to work with bus operators to deliver the KAT Card, which offers great value unlimited bus travel for young people within the city.
“Using the bus for short urban journeys helps to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality, and we know young people are very aware of the importance of looking after their local environment.”
Stuart Fillingham, East Yorkshire’s head of commercial, said:
“We’re glad to see the Hull KAT Card continue to be supported by Hull City Council. We know that many of the young people who travel on board our city services enjoy the freedom and independence that the KAT Card offers ''
“It’s important that we continue to encourage greener methods of transport around the city, especially to the next generation – as well as helping young people get out to see some of the great things this city has to offer.”
The new prices are as follows:
- Hull KAT Card: £13.50
- Hull Card Weekly: £18.90
- Hull Card Day: £ 5.20
- Hull Card Group: £13.80
These price increases will allow the council and both bus operators to continue providing the best possible service to residents across the city.
